Our Story...
The Barking Chicken Farm was established in 2010 after my husband and I were married. I had purchased my grandparents farm house and several acres prior and once we were married, we decided to start our own small farm. It has been quite the undertaking, many of the out buildings are in bad shape and we are slowly working go get them back up and usable. Luckily the chicken house, pictured above, was still in really good condition and just needed minor repairs and some new paint. It is such a privilege to own a piece of my family’s history and restore it with my husband; he' such a handy-man.
What's in a name?
Have you ever heard a chicken bark? Usually when a hen lays an egg, she makes a lot of noise. When we were younger, one of my cousins would hear the hens and say they were barking so they must have laid an egg. As we were figuring out a name for our farm, I told my husband the story and that is how we got our name 'The Barking Chicken Farm'.
Where do bees live? In a bee hideout of course!...at least according to our nephew! We loved that he called the bee hives 'bee hideouts' so much that we named our honey house, pictured to the left, where we will store bee and honey supplies as well as extract honey, once restored, the Bee Hideout!

Why heirloom and organic?
We believe this is the way nature intended food to be grown and that's why we grow everything organically! It is our belief that the use of harsh chemicals is not only bad for the environment but for human consumption as well. We also grow from heirloom seeds, non-GMO. Because the seeds have not been genetically modified, the end result is a tastier vegetable!
